A magnificently attractive and extremely impressive teak root bench in lovely vintage condition. Likely crafted around 1960-1980, this super statement bench could be used indoors or outside. It has gorgeous colouring, a beautifully organic shape and it will add a sumptuously sculptural aesthetic of artistic rustic minimalism to any setting.
the most impressive root bench we’ve ever seen, this beauty is reassuringly heavy and impressively sized. The seat and back are formed from a single piece of teak root, which has been smoothed and finished to accentuate its amazingly undulating natural contours.
richly coloured and wonderfully grained, it’s a generous two-seater and its chunky tripod design can cause it to topple if someone sits at one end without a counterbalance at the other. That aside, this is a truly breathtaking piece and a standout amongst teak root benches. There is so much to admire in this piece, which seems to change and increase in curiosity from every new angle viewed.
a remarkable synthesis of nature and art, which has created an outstanding and unique design, this really is a statement piece par excellence, which won’t fail to impress however it's displayed.
condition
this is in very-good-to-excellent vintage condition. Structurally sound, reassuringly heavy, and impressively sized, it is handsomely gnarled and contorted and has been well looked after and displayed as an indoors piece, hence it retains its gorgeous colouring. Teak is a hard wood valued for its durability and water resistance so could be used indoors or outside if weatherproofed first. It was oiled about a month prior to photographing, since when the rich ruddy colouring subsided to lighter, more golden tones. This should continue to happen until it’s re-oiled or waxed, which should ‘lock’ the current colouring in place – something for its new owner to decide on! overall this is a really magnificent teak root bench in lovely vintage condition and if well looked after it should be just as breathtaking for generations to come – please see the photos.
