Title: Social
Artist: Alfred Phillips
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Alfred Phillips Social captures a candid urban moment between two individuals, blending realism with expressive abstraction. The painting features a man seated on a public trash bin, engrossed in his phone, while another figure leans in, seemingly engaged in conversation or observation. The muted yet dynamic background swirls in warm earth tones, suggesting the vibrancy of city life while also drawing attention to the contrast between human connection and digital absorption. The interplay of light, shadow, and texture highlights Phillips signature approach, bringing depth to both the subjects and the atmosphere. Social reflects modern interactions where technology and human presence coexist, often blurring the lines of engagement and disconnection.

Biography
ALFRED PHILLIPS, an acrylic painter based in Gainesville, FL, has earned 30+ Best In Show awards for exhibits in large and small venues, including the prestigious Art Florida competition and, recently, the Winter Park Autumn Art Fair’s top prize.
He paints using what he sees around him as reference in a style he calls Contemporary Realism mixing realism and sometimes abstract elements.
Educated at Louisville, Kentucky’s Art Center School, with a full scholarship for a four-year studio degree, he then had a successful career in commercial art. He had his own graphics design firm which he closed in 2003 to become a full-time painter.
Phillips has volunteered extensively for arts groups including five years as the first ever Gainesville Fine Arts Association Gallery Director which he helped establish.
