Antique French Baccarat crystal perfume box. Richly decorated on the lid, base and sides, with a cut pattern of diamonds and hobnail buttons. The pattern referred to as Diamants Pierreries, Pontarlier. The Pontarlier pattern is a top quality cut crystal production identified in the Baccarat 1916 catalogue. The box is finished in bronze mounts comprising of two loop ring handles at either side and centered by a rosette escutcheon, resting on ball footed base. The hinged lid opening to reveal a removable caddy tray housing 6 perfume bottles. Each lovely perfume bottle with a hinged lid with conical top, each retaining their original glass stoppers. The stoppers are numbered to correspond to matching numbers on the base of the bottles, indicating they are original. Polished pontils to the bases.
Beginning in 1860, Baccarat began marking their pieces with a circular paper label, which often times got lost, removed or washed away. Starting in 1936, Baccarat replaced the traditional paper labels with their permanent acid-etched logo. The box is unsigned Baccarat, it predates the Baccarat acid-etched logo first used in 1936. The cut pattern can be found in the 1916 catalogue listed as Pontarlier pattern. The bottles are also unsigned and predate the 1936 acid-etched logo. 5 of the 6 bottles retain their original early Baccarat paper labels.
Box measures 6 3/8" length x 4 3/4" deep x 5" height. The bottles measure 3 1/8" height x 1 3/8" square. In overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use. Lacking a key. There are some nicks hidden among the intricate cut pattern on the box. One bottle has a chip to the corner of the base, another bottle with a clam-shaped chip to the corner.
