In my opinion the bed was made in Boston or Salem Ma about 1820. The carving is similar to carving by the famous Boston carver Thomas Wightman who did work for John and Thomas Seymour also similar to carving found on furniture made in Salem, Ma with carving related to that of Samuel and Samuel Field McIntire. The foot posts are mahogany and flame mahogany veneer. The flame mahogany veneered panels are framed with delicate carved moldings. Its not often that you see reeding on the legs. The head posts are either maple or birch and are not carved because they would be wrapped in bed curtains. The headboard is pine which is normal. Bed was refinished years ago. The canopy frame is a modern replacement but of the correct type. Bed will need a custom spring and mattress. Beds overall measurements are 58" wide at the outside and 76" long overall. Inside the rails where the spring and mattress go the opening is 51 1/2" wide by 70 1/4" long. It is 78" to the top of the curve of the canopy frame. The posts are 64 1/4" tall. See less
