The seascape features the moon’s reflection on the ocean known as the as “a stairway to heaven”. A sailboat is under way on the horizon and the dangerous cliffs are illuminated to gleam it’s rich colors. I couldn’t exactly say if the painting is more valuable than the frame? The turn of the 19th Century giltwood gesso frame in excellent condition with interesting fret work pattern drawn out on the flat guilt is a rare frame indeed. Highly sought after at auction the frame alone would bring over one possibly two thousand dollars. J.S.Fraser is a skilled and listed maritime painter who perfectly captured in this painting the mood of a moon lit journey at sea. This painting hung in a room with high ceiling and was above all other paintings high up where I could look up to the moon. Signed and dated. See less
