Lost wax bronze lions cast in two sections, forelegs, and rear joined at the waist by chain elements that holds a set pin through the back to the stomach. ( originally probably a wooden pin but now a bolt and nut.) Beautifully modeled with great attention to decorative elements in the curls of the main, the scrolling of the tail, the scrolling elements rising from the legs, and elsewhere over the bodies. Standing on all four feet with open fanged mouth they measure 17.5" tall, 10" wide and 16" deep. Very good weight.
A pair of a male and a female guardian Buddhist Lions. Detail photos add views of the inside walls of the casting and more detailed photos are available on request. There is no writing on these animals, however large areas of the female are engraved with scales. See less
