Celebrate Mardi Gras (and good eatin') all year long with recipes from these classic New Orleans, Louisiana cookbooks.
As with all Southern conversations, the books share lovely stories and proud family anecdotes along with fabulous recipes. And, a special, added value extra is the heartfelt inscription, written in a child's best cursive penmanship, to his mother on Christmas day, 1987 (pictured). It will bring a smile to your heart every time you cook from that book!
The set consists of 3 hardcover volumes authored by well known NOLA chefs and TV personalities as well as a more "local" tome compiled by the New Orleans "Delta Aimees" group.
* Brennan's New Orleans Cookbook, New Orleans, Robert L. Crager & Co., 1964. Authored by the Brennan family, a New Orleans culinary dynasty of Commander's Palace & Brennan's restaurant fame;
* The Prudhomme Family Cookbook, NY, William Morrow & Co., 1987. Compiled by the (11-sibling!) family of Chef Paul Prudhomme owner of K. Paul's Louisiana Kitchen restaurant and star of the PBS hit series which introduced the rest of the U.S. to NOLA cuisine;
* Justin Wilson's Homegrown Louisiana Cookin', NY, Macmillan Publishing, 1990. Written by the original Ragin' Cajun (and comedian) Justin Wilson who first shared Louisiana fare through his Homegrown cooking show while cracking jokes as well as eggs.
* New Orleans Jazziest Cookbook 1976, another "homegrown" a pamphlet type, local cookbook published by the "Delta Aimees", full of recipes they serve in their own homes to family & friends.
The 3 hardcover volumes are in excellent vintage condition with very little wear except a small tear in the Brennan's dust jacket. The softcover book has cover abrasion but is in otherwise very good shape.
