Le Pho was one of the most important Vietnamese artists. His work combining Western techniques and materials with Eastern subjects was ground breaking during Le Pho’s lifetime. Maternity compositions remain his most desirable.

Notes:
• Offered in 1961 as part of an exhibition of paintings on silk at the Romanet Gallery in Paris, France.
• The subject painting headlined the exhibition and was previously exhibited at major exhibition of Le Pho silk paintings in 1956.
• Oil paintings on silk (as is the subject painting for this print) have been deteriorating with no viable conservation practices in sight, increasing the importance of prints from the period.
