This unusual pair of lifesize French 19th century Blue Herons are realistically depicted with the two birds foraging in their natural environment. Signed: Moigniez Jules
One large Heron is holding a frog in its mouth, while the other with wings flared and out stretched neck, wants to share in the find.
Audubon quality details featuring full body volume, chiseled feathers, and a base cast with foliage, undergrowth, tree stumps and natural vegetation make this piece remarkable.
The sculptor captures realism in its element and the statues are full of movement and emotion.
In very good antique condition with verdigris patina.
Can be used indoors or outdoors
Some of Moignez's works were made in spelter or white metal ( which is much less valuable than bronze ) while others were reproduced and are copies. One example of a common reproduction is the large outstretched eagle.
Original 19th century bronze castings and are of the period.
As a pair these are even more valuable and sought after by collectors since they have been kept together for all these years.
Moignez'es pieces can be viewed at the Chateau de Compiegne Museum north of Paris where some of the French national collection is housed, as well as amidst the collection of the Mont-de Marsan museum.
~ 27- 28 ht x 36 long,
