A linocut
* from Germany
* by Walter Kalot (1909–1996)
* Title: Almabtrieb
* hand-signed and dated by the artist
* from 1964
* on colored Hahnemühle handmade paper (with watermark)
* a high-quality, expressive print with an expressionist influence
* Motif: the drive of cattle from the mountain pastures (alpine pastures) into the valley, where they spend the winter in the farm stables. Depending on the regional climate, the cattle drive takes place between mid-September and mid-October and is often accompanied by festive customs. If the alpine summer has passed without fatal accidents for people and animals, in many areas the herds are artistically decorated for the round-up and the cattle round-up is combined with music and dance events.
* Walter Kalot (born October 5, 1909 in Glatz, Silesia; † December 18, 1996 in Oberstdorf) was a German sculptor, graphic artist and painter. Kalot studied at the State Academy of Arts and Applied Arts in Breslau and the University of the Arts in Berlin-Charlottenburg. His teachers included Otto Mueller and Emil Orlik, among others. After the war, Kalot worked as chief graphic designer at AEG in Berlin. During his work in Berlin, he built a second home and his own studio and was active as a freelance artist.
