These were very popular in the 1960s and 1970s, many from Italy. This seems to be a rich almost indigo blue agate with an amber undertone and a crystal quartz center, more than likely from Brazil or Argentina. One of the edges is sloped down and polished, so this is intentional and from when the piece was made. We did many of the pictures with the sun as background to show the translucent mineral sparkle and color. The surface is very smooth polished, almost glassy, and the underside is matte and unpolished - the color is easier to see on the bottom. Can also be used as a paperweight.
