This Judith Leiber bunny rabbit is a fabulous bag that shows off her restraint in terms of crystal use. This bunny is largely done in florentined brushed gold metal, with silver crystal ears, face, feet and tail. He has carnelian Cabochon eyes, and a push-lock clasp that opens to reveal a gold leather interior.
This bag is part beaded and part florentined by hand, a Venetian technique characterised by its embodiment of a painterly style and an enhanced degree of naturalism. The Florentine effect is achieved by several layered brushstrokes on the gold tone metal surface that define the desired form of a gift box.
Leiber pays close attention to the effects of light on the surface, and has brought this knowledge of light into play in this rabbit Minaudiere using the reflected light on the surface to create both movement and volume. The stylized shape, the Florentine surface, the sleek and clean lines all condense the Art Deco features in this Minaudiere.
