Etienne Billet (French, 1821-1888), Portrait of William Harold Fitch, Oil on Canvas laid on Board, circa 1870, signed mid left, inscribed "William Harold Fitch / of Marseilles France" with old Christie's East label to verso, giltwood frame. Image: 28" H x 23" W; frame: 38.5" H x 33.5" W.
Note: The subject of this portrait is William Harold Fitch (1837-1898), a scion of Fitch Brothers & Co., a Marseilles-based stock broking and mercantile family. Fitch lived in Chateau de Pradines. The family made their fortune supplying the American Naval squadron based in the Mediterranean.
