Lucien Arnaud was a French ceramist from Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye. He is particularly known for his role in the creation and management of the Société de Grès Flammés et Céramiques de Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye, of which he was the president and main shareholder. The company was founded on November 25, 192012.
Arnaud produced a variety of ceramics, ranging from traditional utilitarian stoneware such as salt pans, pots and jugs, to artistic pieces, some inspired by the Art Nouveau style. Some of his works were also signed "Primavera" and intended for the Le Printemps3 department stores.
His designs include stoneware vases with glazes ranging from light to dark brown, and engraved designs reminiscent of the works of Jean-Joseph Carriès4. Arnaud also experimented with metallescent enamelling and casting techniques obtained by spraying creosote5.
Lucien Arnaud thus marked the history of French ceramics through his innovation and his contribution to ceramic art at the beginning of the 20th century.
