Large vintage horizontally-winged, carved wood Bat/ hawk or owl mask painted with natural pigment. From Burkina Faso. This dramatic mask, painted on both sides, represents a bird with outstretched wings. Known as the "butterfly" mask, and was worn by holding the mask by a rope attached to the back.
