This two piece antique Mechelen style hunt buffet cabinet was likely crafted in the late 19th century in Belgium. True to the Mechelen style, it is heavily carved on both the upper and lower sections. The upper section features two impressive stained glass cabinet doors with only one indistinguishably cracked piece of glass. There is a single shelf inside. There are two dovetailed drawers at the top of the lower section and two more heavily carved cabinet doors underneath with a shelf inside. Lion head carvings on both top and bottom add to the overall ambiance of this impressive piece. The top and bottom cabinets have a working locks and keys. The piece likely dates to the 1880's.
This cabinet does have some age appropriate marks and flaws. There is some wood separation on the lower cabinet doors. In addition, it appears that the original lower trim work/molding has been replaced at some point, as well as the bottom shelf of the lower cabinet (possibly owing to water damage). The repairs are done in such a way as to achieve a good match with the original woodwork, and as such they do not take away from the overall quality of the piece. That said, we think it's safe to say that the lower molding is not original to the cabinet (hence the appropriate pricing). .
This cabinet is 86 1/4" tall, 39 1/4" wide, and 19 3/4" deep (219.1 x 99.7 x 50.2 cm.).
