A handsome vintage high-quality mahogany flip-top console table in classic refined English Georgian taste by fine quality American furniture maker Henredon, and with interesting provenance.
From the exquisite Noix collection, this large six legged table morphs from a narrow console table, doubling in size to a card games table, with ideal proportions for a buffet server opening to easily add additional dining seating when entertaining or large family gatherings.
High quality hand-crafted solid wood construction, exceptionally executed in sophisticated and restrained traditional 18th century English Georgian style (similar to NeoClassical inspired French Louis XVI and American Federal), having a long rectangular antiqued parquetry boarded tabletop with removable custom glass panel top, two-board hinged flip-top extension, supported by wooden hinge double swing-out gate-legs, having a shaped apron with fluted frieze and elegant shell carvings, raised on six tapering squared straight legs, terminating in subtle acanthus carved feet. Late 20th century, United States
Signed, retaining the original order label to underside.

ABOUT THE MAKER:
Henredon Furniture was founded in Morganton, North Carolina, USA in 1945 by four entrepreneurs. They are Henry Wilson, Ralph Edwards, Donnell VanOppen, and John Harris. The four men had previously worked together at a furniture company called Lenoir Chair Company, which had gone bankrupt during the Great Depression. The company’s name, “Henredon,” combines the founders’ first names.
With a combined $10,000 in capital, the founders set out to create a furniture company focusing on quality craftsmanship and innovative design. They began by producing only three furniture pieces – a chair, a stool, and a bench – which they sold to local furniture retailers.
In the early years, Henredon’s success was based on its ability to produce high-quality furniture at a reasonable cost. The company used innovative manufacturing techniques and materials, such as new types of glues and finishes, to create furniture that was both durable and beautiful.
As the company grew, its product line expanded to include a wide range of furniture, including kitchen breakfast tables, dining tables, sofas, and bedroom sets. Henredon’s furniture coincides with timeless design, quality craftsmanship, and attention to detail.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Henredon gained a reputation for producing some of the finest furniture in the United States. The company’s furniture was often featured in high-end interior design magazines. Henredon was also used in many upscale homes and hotels.
Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Henredon continued to expand its product line and build a strong reputation in the furniture industry. The company introduced new collections designed by notable designers, such as Frank Lloyd Wright and Dorothy Draper.
Heritage Home Group acquired Henredon in 1986. Under the ownership of Heritage Home Group, Henredon continued to produce high-end furniture with a focus on quality craftsmanship and timeless design.
In 2018, Heritage Home Group and the company’s assets, including Henredon were aquired by Furniture Brands International.
Henredon is also well known for collaborations with some of the most important and prominent designers, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Dorothy Draper, Alexa Hampton and Polo's Ralph Lauren. These collaborations have resulted in some of the company’s most iconic furniture collections, which are still popular and highly sought after today
