Chromium plated on brass, with the inscription … Read more A rare Supermarine S6B schneider Trophy sea plane hood ornament, by Rolls Royce. Chromium plated on brass, with the inscription "Rolls-Royce LTD" embossed beneath the right float, circa 1933-1939. Mounted on a soild aluminium base. The Supermarine S6B is a British racing seaplane developed by R.J. Mitchell for the Supermarine Company to take part in the Schneider Trophy competition in 1931. The S6B marked the culmination of Mitchell's quest to perfect the design of the racing seaplane and represented the cutting edge of aerodynamic technology of the time. The Supermarine seaplane won the Schneider tropy outright in 1931 at a speed of 380 MPH. See less
