An incredibly magnificent french table or desk. Somebody has spent an enormous amount of money having this restored and upcycled.
it has three working drawers to the sides which would suggest it has been used maybe as a desk and certainly would not look out of place as a desk. A perfect size if you need something with considerable space or indeed if you have a large room to fill this would look very stately and magnificent.
but equally it would be fine as a kitchen or dining room table.
( maybe, out of interest, i have written a mildly amusing blog about this table, paste into your tool bar)

if you are going to use it as a dining room table i would suggest you add a few coats of danish oil to protect the surface. I bought this at auction as you see it and i have no idea what finish has been used on the top but it certainly does not look like it's been oiled although it does have a slight sheen to it so i think maybe a wax has been applied. But with all kitchen and dining tables it's always good to take particular care of the surfaces and if you google up on surfaces and danish oil you'll see it's very easy to do and maintain.
the unusual feature of the outstanding base of the splayed almost spider like legs. These are beautiful but also robust. I cannot stress enough what a top quality table this is. It is made of a french fruitwood which is a tough hardwood and as you can see to the top has an outstanding grain to it.
the base has many decorations and has been painted dark grey, mid sheen. Areas have been lightly sanded to expose the wood and leave a beautiful shabby chic finish. Of particular interest is the almost secondary piece of decoration right to the very bottom of the legs, which is very unusual.
the three drawers are clean, long and run well, the left and right hand drawers have handles the central one would have been operated by a working key. This key is now missing so you manually have to open it from the sides.
what i most like about the top and the outstanding grain is there appeared to be hues of almost a greyish colour which blends in so well with the grey of the base, it is a fantastic match.
it has been a top quality restoration job, someone has spent a lot of time and money on it.
to the insides of the four table stretchers you will see there are some runs of modern wood with holes in them which are for attaching the top which is currently unattached for removal purposes, and just to remind you, you really must check you're going to get this into whatever room you want to get it into. With the top off it should manoeuvre quite easily into most rooms if you have a large house.
screws will be provided and you maybe need to turn the table top onto a duvet face down place the table base on top of it and put the screws through the lengths of wood into the matching holes, job done as they say. Easiest method anyway rather than getting underneath.
