Signed lower left, 'Roberta Loach' (American, born 1936) and dated '79'; additionally signed verso and dated.
An enigmatic and whimsical drawing of a young woman in swimming costume and cap preparing to dive into a life belt bearing the legend 'U. S. S. LOVE' while a merman eagerly awaits her arrival and a cruise ship languishes in the distance.
Roberta Loach was born in 1936 in Monterey Fork, California. She received her B. A. from San Jose State University in 1964 and an Masters there in 1968. She has exhibited widely and with success including at the San Francisco Art Commission, the Triton Museum of Art, the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art and a number of Bay Area galleries. She was the founder, publisher, and editor of Visual Dialog Magazine, a quarterly journal of fine art, from 1975 to 1979. Roberta Loach's work may be found in the permanent collections of the Albany Museum, Albany, New York; the Triton Museum of Art; the Fresno Art Museum; the Museum of the City of San Francisco and the San Jose Museum of Art among others.
