New painting by emerging Los Angeles artist Thierry Hennequin. A beautiful seaside tree with a beachgoer in repose. Thierry built the stretcher bars himself. He then mounts the canvas. His process is to sketch the subject, then layer multiple acrylic elements. He then applies oil for a sumptuous texture and highlights. The vibrant colors and brushstrokes give this superb piece a pleasing appeal with an underlying eroticism.

About the artist:
Born in Dakar, Senegal, Thierry Hennequin grew up steeped in the art and traditions of Western Africa. Woodcarving caught his imagination; it was a craft learned from the local artists. Thierry moved to Southern France as a young boy and was quickly introduced to the great classical and modern French artists. Here, he began experimenting with pigments and canvas and was deeply influenced by Van Gogh's work. In his teens, Thierry's family moved to Oceania, the South Pacific islands of New Caledonia and New Polynesia. His contacts with Melanesian and Polynesian cultures left a lasting impression, especially the exposure to the Paul Gauguin Museum in French Polynesia. Thierry works with acrylic and oil on different mediums, including wood, clay, plasticine, bronze, and LED-lit mixed media. His home and studio are in West Los Angeles. See less
