Set of 18 newly framed herbariums from 1895. Framing is new Larson-Juhl solid wood from Italy, folios are mounted to archival quality board under glass, descriptive specimen notes in their meticulous quill dipped in ink penmanship at the bottoms of each botanical.
Compiled in Georgia, collections of plant specimens, pressed, dried and carefully placed into folio pages called a herbarium became a popular past-time for young botanists, particularly young women enthusiasts for whom career or practical scientific study wasn't an option.
What makes these especially remarkable is that the dried specimens have been meticulously hand-sewn onto their pages.
Please note that these are actual plant specimens and each is unique.
Also note that currently we have another listing for 20 specimens from this folio comprising the whole collection.
