The rectangular liquor cabinet is constructed of gilt bronze and glass, resting on four decorative scrolled feet embellished with acanthus leaf motifs. The finely detailed bronze framework features floral decorations at each corner, adding refinement to the elegant design.

The cabinet is fitted with clear glass panels on all four sides and the top, allowing the contents to be admired even when closed. The hinged glass lid opens to reveal a removable serving tray with an ornate gilt bronze handle, holding a complete crystal liqueur service comprising four decanters with matching stoppers and sixteen delicate stemmed cordial glasses. Each piece is beautifully decorated with finely etched floral motifs, creating a harmonious and sophisticated ensemble. The decanters and glasses are secured in individual gilt bronze holders, allowing the entire service to be lifted out for entertaining.

The Napoleon III cave à liqueur, also known as a Tantalus, is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and retains a rich gilt bronze finish. Complete with its original-style key, this elegant liquor cabinet would make a distinguished addition to a gentleman's study, library, or formal living room.
