A poelle being a cooking pan.This small village on the channel sea cultivates a long tradition of hand made copper wares.Clearly marked with the "Villedieu stamp" this piece also has the initials R.C . Not so common to come across these older pieces that are very richly crafted with a variety of details but somewhat more traditional in style. This one seems different in style than other pieces from the same time frame. A true slice of French vernacular traction and craftsmanship. I discovered this piece in a open air "brocante" flea market near the city of Brest France. In relatively good condition this massive copper vase only desires to oxidize if left unattended. Let time and the elements do its magic all over again or let yourself be blinded by the warm brightness of copper. See less
