The United States Printing and Lithograph Company seems to have had its origin in San Francisco in 1911 (under a … Read more The United States Printing and Lithograph Company seems to have had its origin in San Francisco in 1911 (under a different name); later it was renamed and became the U.S.P.L. Co., which impressed mark can be found on this print in the lower left corner, above the signature (you can barely make it out in the close-up picture, but in reality it's entirely legible). The print is under glass. The period frame is doubtless the original frame, as it appears the artwork has never been removed from the frame. The frame is exquisite, with beautiful coloration; as you can see, there are a number of small disturbances to that patina, which can be touched up if deemed necessary.

You can remove the backing to be able to better read the signature on the print. The print appears to be in pristine condition.

The scene has a rather impressionist flavor to it, the artwork top quality. Perhaps it’s a San Francisco scene at the waterfront?

The frame has the mark of Gump’s department store on the back, and as we know, Gump’s was at the top of the food chain, purveying to the elite and wealthy. Inspecting the back reveals that the print, presumably an offset lithograph, has never been out of the frame and is in the 100-year-old realm.
