English jockey scales are fantastic pieces of horse racing history. These handsome scales were used at British tracks—measuring jockeys in the English unit of stones (1 stone equals 14 pounds). The British firm of W & T. Avery was founded in the early 18th century specializing in scales and earned the reputation as the premier manufacturer of their age.
