This “Casino” sign by Cassandre advertises a French grocery store chain. The sign is enameled, and the figure carries a globe and scales, signifying trade and balance. Adolphe Mouron, also known as Cassandre, designed the sign in 1931. A.M., born in Ukraine, moved to Paris and attended the Académie Julian. His specialities were graphic design, set painting, painting and typeface design. He went on to become a major influence in 20th century advertising.
This sign is in good original condition with minor losses to the enamel, and expected signs of wear consistent with age and use. The screw holes are also visible. Please see photos.
