Large Tessuto Bowl by Tyra Lundgren for Venini, Murano
A large tessuto glass bowl made of transparent glass decorated with fine red canes and an iridized surface. The bowl has a wavy rim and a pair of applied leaves made of transparent glass. Designed by Tyra Lundgren in 1938, manufactured by Venini, Venice in 1982. Incised mark “venini italia 1936 tyra lundgren 1982” on the base. A rare example of Lundgren's iconic designs for Venini. Model no. 2690.

Tyra Lundgren (1897 – 1979) was a Swedish painter, ceramist, glass and textile designer. In 1936, she met the glassmaker Paolo Venini at the Triennale di Milano. He invited her to Murano and she became the first woman to design glass for Venini. Her bird, fish and snake sculptures belong to the most seeked Venini glasses. In 1938 and 1948 her designs for Venini were exhibited at the Venice Biennale. Lundgren also worked as glassware designer at Moser, Karlsbad, Riihimäki, Finnland and Kosta, Sweden. In 1950, she was awarded the Swedish royal medal Litteris et Artibus in recognition of her artistic career.
