A 19th century French Japonisme Aesthetic Movement side table. Sturdy bamboo frame with open work bamboo stretcher and slightly curved root end feet. Top is made from a Japanese marquetry inlaid rosewood tray with black lacquered rim and handles. Drawer has working lock and key. Exquisite marquetry with a patchwork of intricate geometric patterns created using a traditional wood inlay technique called Yosegi. Retaining a Japanese paper label under the tray. Top is pegged into the base and does not remove for serving. In good condition with minor restoration to black lacquered trim. Circa 1870-1890.
