This dining table is … Read more A gorgeous 1960s Danish Modern extendable dining table attributed to Hans Wegner for Johannes Hansen Cabinetmakers. This dining table is composed of beautifully grained solid rosewood in a rich, cherry hue and stands on stretcher accented legs with metal supports. The table’s rectangular top extends to accommodate additional seating, featuring two drop-leaf surfaces that fold out horizontally, seamlessly joined by brass hinges. Unmarked. Sourced in Denmark, 1960s.

Hans Jørgensen Wegner was a renowned Danish furniture designer who contributed to the international popularity of Mid 20th Century Danish design. His style is often described as Organic Functionality — Wegner believed that striking aesthetics in furniture were based on a foundation of practicality.

Hans Wegner received a number of awards and honors throughout his career, including the Lunning Prize in 1951, the Grand Prix of the Milan Triennale in 1951, the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts’ Eckersberg Medal in 1956, Sweden’s Prince Eugen Medal in 1961, the Danish Furniture Prize in 1980, the C. F. Hansen Medal in 1982, and the 8th International Design Award in 1997. His works have also been shown in major institutions around the world, such as The Museum of Modern Art in New York, Die Neue Sammlung in Munich, and Design museum Denmark in Copenhagen.

Condition: Great overall vintage condition. The surface has been fully refinished by our team of restorationists. Light oxidation to the metal supports, which aligns with age and use.
