A fine and rare underglaze- yellow/blue/green vase, seal mark.

The Vase has of rectangular section, the pear-shaped body rising from a spreading foot to a waisted neck, flanked by a pair of badgers handles suspending fixed rings, intricately enamelled to the front and back face with a pair of phoenix descending in flight, grasping in their beaks leafy meandering stems bearing large peony blooms, the sides similarly decorated with further scrolling peonies, all between stylised ruyi lappets, the foot skirted with a pendent stiff leaf band, inscribed to the base with a six-character seal mark. Badgers in a picture symbolize happiness because , badgers are almost always portrayed with magpies as they also give the wish for happiness. In some regions cats and badgers were given the same name so a picture of a cat may actually signify ‘happiness’. A flying magpie and a badger represent happiness both in heaven (sky) and on earth. While if the magpie is perched they represent wish for future happiness. See less
