Up for sale is this beautiful engraving, one of a series of forty-two double-page engravings that were published by William Cavendish in 1657 as part of his "Méthode et Invention Nouvelle de Dresser les Chevaux" and described as "among the most beautiful to ever grace equestrian literature". William Cavendish, Duke of Newcastle, was a Royalist living in exile in Belgium, where he opened a riding school. This woodcut engraving, made after a design by Abraham van Diepenbeeck, depicts a bit. It is one of four framed engravings from this volume that we are currently selling. Measuring 16 3/8" x 18 5/8" overall with an image size of 8 1/2" x 12", it is framed in wood and in very good condition with age toning commensurate with age and nicks to the edges, as pictured.
Buy It Now and Enjoy - and please see our other listings for three more plates by Cavendish depicting riders demonstrating training techniques, identically framed.
