Offered is a vintage 1970s set of 2 ceramic coffee mugs from Tonalá in Jalisco, Mexico and created by Ken Edwards renowned for his studio, El Palomar. The bird and flower motif on the body are typical of the region, as are the colors, made from natural tints native to the area. Though the mugs are similar in their hand painted design, they are slightly different in size due to each being hand made and intrinsically unique. These are a soft gray base with a small black bird, a navy blue flower, deep olive green leaves, and a coffee glaze detail on the rim and handle. The glaze is a bit softer and thicker than the base, suitable for where the mouth has contact with the cup and the hand holds it.
Larger one measures 5.25" tall, 6" handle to edge, 4" diameter, 3.25" base diameter, 3.5" mouth diameter
Smaller one measures 5" tall, 5.75" handle to edge, 4.25" diameter, 3." base diameter, 3.5" mouth diameter
