Charles Ellis was known for his illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post, Jack and Jill Magazine, The Sunday Magazine, among others. He also painted portraits for wealthy clients.
This is an original magazine illustration, though we are unsure which publication it appeared in.
A fast horse race at Churchill Downs.
Dimensions 24 1/2" x 19". The artist board it's painted on measures 31" x 25".
Signed lower right. Good vintage condition with a few minor scuffs (consistent with age) and some foxing. Comes unframed.
