The Luminary: No. 4 of an original edition of 15 color woodblock prints by the American artist
John Buck. Some hand coloring. Professionally framed with edges shown in a maple wood and museum glass. The Luminary, glows with light emanating from electric bulbs surrounding a silhouetted central figure. The background is laced with an incised fine line tapestry of images of Chicago including historic moments in the city’s history. Also depicted are the city’s famous architecture, sporting teams and rich arts and industrial heritage. The central figure “illuminates” these images and may be seen as a metaphor for inspiration and hope.

Lives in Bozeman, Montana
John Buck is both a sculptor and a printmaker. He works with two interrelated bodies of work: carved wood, assemblage and bronze sculptures, and large, multicolored woodblock prints. Since beginning his collaboration with Bud Shark in 1983, Buck has explored the expressive possibilities of woodblock in more than 40 different prints.
