Item description:
Planter vase, glazed ceramic centerpiece, made of clay worked on a potter's wheel, majolica glazed, and completely decorated by hand. Made and signed in turquoise under the base by the famous Italian manufacturer Molaroni, Pesaro. The brush-tip decorations on the vase are exquisite, each one slightly different from the other, and the two masks on the sides are beautiful, reminiscent of Renaissance-style vases of the past.
Useful information for evaluating the item:
A quick internet search shows that Molaroni ceramics are offered at auction and for sale on the most important online sales platforms for art and antiques at prices ranging from €200-300 for smaller, simpler items to several thousand euros for larger items with more complex decoration. Vases of a similar size and decoration to ours are offered at prices ranging from a minimum of €300 to over €500.
Information about the artist and/or manufacturer:
In 1880, Vincenzo Molaroni took over the Pesaro-based factory "Benucci e Latti," which had been in operation since 1814, where he had begun learning the art of ceramics at a very young age. The factory produced works of great formal and technical quality, with a classical style and Renaissance inspiration, but also some highly innovative pieces. Numerous artists of great value worked in the factory. In 1912, upon Vincenzo's death, ownership of the factory passed to his sons Francesco, Eliseo, and Telesforo and his brother Giuseppe. Under Francesco's leadership, the factory continued to produce high-quality majolica marked "Molaroni-Pesaro" in blue, as on our centerpiece (a mark used from 1908 to 1920). The factory's success continued to grow over the years, becoming a point of reference for many artists. The factory is still in operation, boasts numerous auction results, and is internationally renowned for the quality and beauty of its artistic ceramics. This piece has an attribution mark,
