A inconic & rare Mid-Century Modern Italian table Rosewood & steel executive desk, designed by Gio Ponti, Antonio Fornaroli & Alberto Rosselli and produced by Studio PFR, circa 1955, Milan, Italy.
The freestanding with a 'floating' rosewwod top, with a band of polished steel trim around the outside edge, the desk is raised upon twin pedestals, each with four drawers with corresponding polished steel trim. The desk with a black steel tubular frame, the pedestals are able to change their position as they slide on a tubular rail to the underside, the desk with elongated twin feet joined with a tubular steel stretcher. PFR mark to the underside of the drawer.
The desk is in good condition and is fready to grace your home or office.
Provenance; From the estate of a prominent West Coast architect, who acquired the desk in Milan in the late 1950s.
Giovanni "Gio" Ponti was an Italian architect, industrial designer, furniture designer, artist, teacher, writer and a publisher born in 1891 Milan, Italy and passed away in 1979 Milan. In 1921, Ponti graduated with a degree in architecture at the Polytechnic Institute in Milan. Over the years, Ponti has built more than a hundred buildings in Italy and around the world. He was a major player in the renewal of Italian design after WW2.
Antonio Fornaroli was an Italian architect and a designer born and passed away in Italy. Fornaroli's personal life and professional training remains lost in history.
Alberto Rosselli was an Italian architect, designer and a teacher, born in 1921, in Palermo, Italy and passed away in 1976. He was known to be the pioneer of industrial design and an advocate of new teaching based on rigorous methodological criteria, implementing the concept of design as a real decision making process. In the 1960's, Rosselli started working with the well known architect Gio Ponti and the engineer Antonio Fornaroli in the Ponti Fornaroli Rosselli ( P.F.R ) studio.
