A Piece of Industrial and Domestic History from England | This is a Patent Marmalade Machine made by Follows & Bate, a Manchester-based company that produced a range of kitchen gadgets from 1870 - 1930's. The making of marmalade was a middle-class activity, so the machines would likely be found in middle-class homes. The back of the machine is made to clamp on a table. She adds instant character to any kitchen shelf.
This is an early model made of tin-plated steel with a triangular body and a handle with a blade that moves left and right. Articles suggest it was sold for sixteen shillings in 1905. This piece comes with the original wood masher that pushes the fruit peel next to the blade and you get perfect marmalade slides.
