A rare and unique find, a Folk Art hand wood carving and miniature portrait of American boxer Joe Louis (1914-1981). Joseph Louis Barrow began his boxing career in 1934, so this would have been done 15 years later in 1949, two years before his retirement.
It is signed "1-7-49" on the back with "Joe Louis" penciled in faintly.
A fine carving, with an antique-white background, and Mr. Louis, with his boxing gloves on, holding his arms to his chest, in a brown stain/paint, with the gloves and hair in a darker shade.
A great addition to any Folk Art, Sports Memorabilia, Boxing, or American collector.
