Beautifully carved early Qing Dynasty Chinese Scolars jade scroll weight carved in high relief with a Chilong dragon recumbent in the centre of the piece. Simple traditional decoration on either end in the form of a dragons face, archaic inscription on verso. Incised cuts on all edges.
Age has made this piece very smooth to the touch.. Very tactile & cool to the touch.
Russet inclusions. Used originally for keeping scrolls/letters in place or flat.
A single powerful chi dragon, a slightly foreshortened head with piercing eyes beneath the eyebrows, a long quiff emerging from the back of the head, the ruyi-shaped snout above a wide mouth grasping a spray of lingzhi fungus. The fore claws are firmly planted, with splayed back legs, down to the symmetrically bifurcated tail,
Soft sheen on the jade, pale green/gray and mustard/amber highlights - fine detailing on the sleeping dragon (referred to as a homeless dragon).
This homeless little dragon is now looking for a new home.
A rare treasure that will not dissapoint.
