She is flanked by two aristocratic borzoi hounds, their flowing coats, curvy silhouettes and chiseled heads synonymous with Russian royalty. This sculpture was cast entirely in a single piece of bronze.

The dogs are patinated in gold and painted in gold and red. The lady’s dress has a raised floral pattern painted in gold on black and her face is patinated with a silver overlay. The figures stand on a bronze base decorated with painted grapes and other decoration. The artwork reflects the best of the Edwardian era and Art Nouveau style.

The Edwardian era, from 1901 to 1910, was a time of great social and economic change that focused on luxury and refinement. Art Nouveau emerged from this period, a highly decorative style characterized by long, stylized and idealized shapes with organic forms used for decoration, as seen in this piece.

The artwork is not signed yet obviously executed by a very accomplished sculptor. While the exact weight is unknown, it may approach 1000 pounds. This sculpture came from a Palm Beach estate, where it stood within a grand entrance to a mansion.
