At Some Point in the … Read more This Really is a Great Looking Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Jug. Circa Approx 1870s. At Some Point in the Past is has Been Professionally Electrified and Converted to be Used as a Table Lamp Base. It Comes with No Shade but NOTE - That it Does Come With a Very Nice Quality Custom Made Genuine Blue Lapis Lazuli Shade Fastener - Top Finial. It is Embossed with a Number 2 Confirming its intended 2 Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. It is Also Embossed - Signed by the Well Documented Stoneware Maker REIDINGER & CAIRE in POUGHKEEPSIE NEW YORK. Records Indicate that this Company was Formed by the Partnership of Philip Riedinger and Adam Caire Producing Stoneware Items From Approx 1857 to 1878. It is Rendered in a Classic American Jug Form with a Salt Glaze Exterior. The Front of the Jug has a Very Nice - Large Navy Blue Color Hand Decorated Stylized Flower Decoration. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of Jugs were Commonly Used to Store Liquids such as Ciders, Vinegar, Ales, Liquors & Spirits, Spring Water Etc. The Jug is in Excellent Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. No Cracks - No Spout or Base Chips - No Repairs. Note that There is a Small Hole Drilled in the Back Lower Base Area so as to Internally Hide and Accommodate the Electrical Power Cord. The Exterior has a Few Very Minor Surface Glaze and Other Imperfections All of Which Would have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. I have Tested the Cord and Socket with a Light Bulb and it is Working - Functional.
