Hand-colored chromolithograph, rare print by the Viennese Biedermeier artist, flower painter and lithographer Anton Hartinger (1808 - 1890), framed. Print by Carl Horegschj, around 1880.
Dimensions: H 59 cm x W 48 cm
Very beautiful motif (Amaryllis, ca 1843) from Paradisus Vindobonensis, in very good condition for its age. Some foxing and age-related patina on the paper.
Anton Hartinger was born in Vienna in 1806. He completed his studies at the Vienna Academy with Strenzel and Sebastian Wegmayr.
In 1836, his skills in painting flower and fruit still lifes brought him a job as a proofreader at the Flower and Fruit School at the Academy, of which he was a member from 1843 to 1851.
One of his main works among the numerous botanical illustrations is the "Paradisus Vindobonensis" with exquisite plant depictions, which reveals the enormous interest of the time in botany and garden culture, and shows exotic flowers and plants that were present in the greenhouses of Vienna in the 19th century.
In his lithographic institute founded in 1859, several works on forestry plants, mushrooms, poisonous plants and landscapes were published.
This chromolithograph was recolored by hand and is a particularly beautiful example of the Viennese floral still life from the Biedermeier period. This piece has an attribution mark,
