The Chinese would call it brown jade, but it is really chalcedony, for which brown agate belongs. Chalcedony bottles were prized just below jades among collectors. This bottle has an unusual small size and shape, more common among older bottles than modern ones. The flattened rectangular shape feels good to hold and it has a well made raised oval foot. The top opening is large for its size and it is well hollowed. The stopper is a green aventurine on a black collar. It is a good match. I feel such a bottle was used as a personal bottle at the turn of the 2oth century when the use of snuff was still popular. All in all, it is a well made bottle with age. See less
