Her current artist’s statement: Using her intuition each painting translates to the next, with an ongoing story. Color is a boundless part of her process, seeking to explore color combinations that intrigue the senses and reveal something unexpected. Exploring is key in Lesley's expression, as she works with the canvas, adding and removing elements, layering textures, paint and mixed media. Lesley believes art can change the way we think, the way we feel and the way we connect with the world.

Lesley Grainger (b. Yorkshire, England) is a contemporary abstract painter based in Southern California. She received a BA (First Class Honors) in Illustration from the University of Lincoln.

Her practice centers on painting and collage, positioned within a field of abstraction that resists fixed categorization. Her work moves between structure and spontaneity, balancing bold color, layered materials, and intuitive mark making. Her paintings are built through a materially driven process guided by a sense of calling and an attentive listening to spiritual intuition. Layers ofintuitive brushstrokes, spray paint, collage, andhand-applied marks are added, removed, and reworked, allowing traces of earlier decisions to remain visibleon the canvas. The work develops through response rather than resolution, reflectingan ongoing process of engagement with deconstruction and reconstruction. Rather than seeking representation, the paintings point inward, inviting emotional presence and quiet contemplation.

Grainger’s work is held in private collections around the world and resonates with collectors and consultants drawn to paintings that balance intensity with restraint and complexity with stillness.
