Dainty Davenport porcelain comport with classically inspired hand painted medallion depicting a love/fortune statue on a tall pedestal surrounded by … Read more Dainty Davenport porcelain comport with classically inspired hand painted medallion depicting a love/fortune statue on a tall pedestal surrounded by foliage, water and distant hill executed by the master hand of the artist in soft pastel colors. A bright double gold border adorned with bejeoux, (raised beading palpable to the touch) and white border is followed by a scalloped key on eye catching aqua blue band trimmed with gold edge. This elegant dish on a pedestal was used mostly in England and America as a serving vessel to display such as fruits, nuts and sweets. Marked Davenport in sepia under royal crown emblem, followed by Longport, ( an area on Stoke-on-Trent), on Strafordshiere, England. It displays number 1905 and an X written under it to denote the artist who decorated it. This marking corresponds to the period of manufacture between 1870 to 1886. Heavy for its size, this form of vessel was also used in entrance halls to hold calling cards. See less
