Bronze relief of Amelia Malvinia Bartle Tower by American sculptor Erastus Dow Palmer.
Palmer (1817-1904) is one of the most sought after 19th century American sculptors. Trained in the classical manner, his work is included in major museums across the country and in Statuary Hall in the US Capitol.
Amelia Tower (1819-1896) was wife of New York and Pennsylvania industrialist Charlemagne Tower Sr and mother of business man, scholar and diplomat C. Tower Jr.
Signed and dated E.D. Palmer '82. Foundry mark “BARBEDIENNE Fondew Paris”
