dante ricci (rome 1921 - 2009)
at a very young age he collaborated with his drawings in newspapers such as "il messaggero" and "il popolo".
he enrolled at the art school and continued his studies at the academy of fine arts, attending the painting and sculpture courses of angelo zanelli, attilio selva, gianni vagenti, duilio cambellotti, ferruccio ferrazzi, carlo siviero.
at just twenty years old he was called to collaborate on large-scale works created for public institutes and began to paint pictures that earned him prizes and recognition.
at the beginning of the second world war, called to arms, he was sent to the russian front, where he was wounded.
even in this period, dante ricci did not abandon his creative activity: numerous paintings, sketches and tempera paintings were carried out in budapest, prague, lviv, bucharest and kiev.
after the liberation he exhibited with renato gattuso, saro mirabella, ugo attardi, renzo vespignani, marcello muccini in multiple group and collective exhibitions, including national ones, in various centers of italy.
since 1954 his works have been presented in major national exhibitions, as well as in italian art exhibitions abroad (czechoslovakia, ussr, poland, romania, etc.).
his multifaceted activity includes drawings, lithographs, etchings, published in prestigious magazines and newspapers.
in the 1970s, he participated in various tv documentaries and dedicated himself to illustration for various publishers and also for the poligrafico dello stato.
already holding the chair of "figure" at the liceo artistico-academy of fine arts in rome, he is an artistic consultant for cultural institutes and specialized publishing houses.
his are three large altarpieces on the life of saint joseph, exhibited in the abbey of montecassino, the fresco, which portrays pope john paul ii in prayer, in the chapel of the mother of good counsel in genazzano and the portrait of the blessed petruccia.
his works appear in private collections in europe and the usa.
