Exceptional and rare pair of Arita porcelain vases decorated with carp jumping out of the water near a waterfall.
Richly decorated from the foreground to the last, combining different techniques to create a very realistic composition: the exterior surface entirely in relief, underglaze blue and coral enamels, contours and details of the fish painted over glaze, gilding, etc.
A tiny cooking crack under the base of one of the vases (no effect), otherwise in perfect condition!
Japan, late 19th century.
