Mid century Rookwood shell plate / change dish / compote featuring a scalloped seashell and floral motif and light blue / turquoise glaze. This dish was originally designed by Arthur Conant. Shape 6390. Circa 1944 XLIV.
Arthur P. Conant was born in the city of Wyoming, Ohio on February 13, 1889. After studying at the Cincinnati Art Academy, he decorated pottery for Rookwood from 1915 until 1939. He married fellow Rookwood artist Patti Conant in 1911.Besides decorating, he also designed various ornamental pieces and bookends. He is best known for scenic vases depicting plants, flowers and animals including birds.
